A hydrosol is the aqueous fraction that separates from the essential oil during steam distillation — the condensed water that has passed through the plant material and carries the water-soluble aromatic compounds, along with a trace dissolved fraction of the volatile oil. It is a co-product of distillation, not a dilution: nothing is added and nothing is reconstituted.

Every hydrosol in this collection is genuinely steam-distilled from the named plant material. That distinction matters commercially — a significant share of the material sold as floral water in global trade is water with essential oil dispersed into it, or water with fragrance added. Those are different articles with different chemistry, and they do not carry the balanced water-soluble compound profile a true hydrosol does.

Preservation — confirm before formulating: Hydrosols are water-based and microbiologically vulnerable by nature. Preservation systems vary by lot and supplier, and the preservative status of a given batch is confirmed on the per-lot documentation rather than assumed from the collection. If your formulation, certification route, or label requires a specific preservative system — or none at all — confirm the status for your specific product and lot before placing a bulk order. Refrigerate after opening in all cases.
How to specify a hydrosol correctly: A complete specification should state the botanical name, the plant part distilled, and the distillation method — flower, leaf and wood distillates of the same species carry different aromatic profiles.
