Formulator Notes

Primary applications: Silicone-alternative formulations, long-wear cosmetics, hair serums, nail treatments, premium anti-ageing emulsions

Blends well with: Jojoba, broccoli seed, argan, marula

Formulator note: Meadowfoam Seed Oil has an almost entirely unique fatty acid profile dominated by very long-chain monounsaturated fatty acids not found in most other plant oils. This gives it three exceptional formulation properties: (1) extremely long shelf life — naturally resistant to oxidation; (2) silicone-like slip and skin feel; (3) acts as a natural fixative for fragrance and essential oils. Use at 5–20% to extend the shelf life of PUFA-rich oil blends.

Fatty Acid Profile

Fatty Acid Profile

Eicosenoic acid (C20:1) | Monounsaturated (MUFA, very long-chain) | 60–65% — Dominant VLCFA — unique sensory profile, silicone-like slip

Docosenoic / Erucic acid (C22:1) | Monounsaturated (MUFA) | 15–20% — Long-chain wax-like MUFA — stability and film forming

Docosadienoic acid (C22:2) | Polyunsaturated (PUFA) | 10–15% — Adds to unique fatty acid profile

Eicosadienoic acid (C20:2) | Polyunsaturated (PUFA) | 5–8% — Skin benefit contribution
